Brake/Mechanic Qualification

Most commercial carriers are familiar with the requirements for each of their commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) to have an annual inspection according to the Appendix G criteria contained in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Many carriers depend on their own mechanics to perform the inspections, while other carriers rely on outside vendors to perform the valuable service. There are requirements which need to be followed and documented to ensure the Appendix G inspections were performed in accordance with the FMCSRs.

ITI can:

  • Provide training to your mechanics to ensure they are following the Appendix G criteria for an annual inspection
  • Check the documentation and history of each mechanic to ensure they meet the qualifications under Part 396.19 to conduct an inspection
  • Provide a document for the carrier to use to certify their mechanic meets the qualifications required under Part 396.19 to perform CMV inspections
  • Check the documentation and history for each mechanic to ensure they meet the qualifications under Part 396.25 to inspect, maintain, repair or service brakes
  • Provide a document for the carrier to use to certify their mechanic meets the qualifications required under Part 396.25 to conduct and perform work on CMV brakes
  • Check your vendor to ensure their mechanic meet the requirements to perform and inspect your vehicles including inspecting maintaining, repairing and servicing the brakes
  • We can perform the required Annual Appendix G inspection using our own qualified and certified inspector
