OPERATION SAFE DRIVER WEEK IS JULY 12-18 WITH A FOCUS ON SPEEDING

Posted: May, 26th 2020

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will go forth with its planned Operation Safe Driver Week on July 12-18.  During this week, law enforcement personnel will be looking for drivers who are operating in an unsafe manner on our Nation’s highways while our partners throughout North America do the same.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of vehicles on our nation’s roadways has decreased significantly, however, with less traffic the spike in severe speeding arrests have increased.  In addition, the average speed on our highways has increased, some by as much as 75% in certain areas.

CVSA has determined to address the increase in unsafe driving in recent months by focusing on speeding violations during Operation Safe Driver Week.  Enforcement personnel will also address drivers who are distracted driving, failure to use seatbelt, following too closely, improper lane change, reckless or aggressive driving, failure to obey traffic control devices, evidence of drunk or drugged driving.  They will not only be looking at Commercial Vehicle Drivers but also drivers operating private passenger vehicles.

If any carriers wish to find out about any specific events in their area, they can contact the agency or department who performs enforcement activities in their jurisdiction.  If you have any questions pertaining to Operation Safe Driver Week, please contact the Indiana State Police, Commercial Vehicle enforcement Division at 317-615-7373.
