FMCSA ANNOUNCES ELDT DELAY

Posted: Feb, 5th 2020

The much awaited and feared ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training) rule scheduled to go into effect on February 7, 2020 has been delayed.  The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) announced the new date as February 7, 2022. The new requirements would have required more extensive entry-level driver training for persons seeking to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).  There are already certain Entry Level Driver Training requirements currently required under Subpart E of Part 380.  The new requirements under Subpart F Part 380 were expected to be much more in-depth.

The necessity of a partial delay became apparent to the FMCSA in July of 2019. The FMCSA realized that a two-year delay was necessary for all parties to get prepared and have the necessary steps in place for a compliance date in 2022.

At this time, we are expecting the February 7, 2022 compliance date to be set in stone.  However, many things could change in the next two-years which might cause another delay.
